Worpuzz Development Log

1. The Spark That Started It All
**2025-05-01**I heard that ChatGPT could help with coding, so I thought I could make a game even without knowing how to code. I finally decided to actually implement an idea I had been thinking about for a long time.
2. The Basic Structure of Worpuzz
Worpuzz is inspired by Minesweeper, so it has a grid like Minesweeper. However, instead of mines, there are letters hidden in the grid. The way words are placed horizontally, vertically, and diagonally is similar to word finder puzzles.
The very first version was 6×6, with only letters—cells without letters were just empty. The game was too easy, so I randomly filled the blank cells with letters.
3. From Solo Clicking to Competing Against the Computer
At first, it wasn’t a game against an NPC or a friend—I just clicked around the grid by myself trying to guess words. It had no fun at all and was inevitably boring. So I made a version where you compete against the computer. The computer clicked randomly, but sometimes it actually found and took words.
4. Growing the Grid and Adding 🍀🌼
The grid grew to 10×10, and since many English words are long, the English version became 12×12.To prevent the game from getting boring and to add more fun, I added 🍀, and later 🌼. There’s another reason I added clovers and daisies—to reduce the chance that randomly placed letters in blank cells would accidentally form words.
There’s still a chance that random letters form words, but preventing that completely is beyond what I can do.
5. What’s in a Name – From Word Finder to Worpuzz
At first, I temporarily called the game Word Finder, then changed it to Word Mining, but there was a company with a similar name, so I changed it to Worpuzz. This name was created by ChatGPT.Worpuzz is a combination of “Word” and “Puzzle.”
6. Worpuzz’s Official Birthday
**2025-05-31**The official birthday of Worpuzz, my first computer game, because that’s when I uploaded it to GitHub.
Clovers were there from the beginning, but there’s no record of when I added daisies, so I don’t know. Probably sometime after uploading to GitHub.
I thought it would be fun to play with friends, so in the friend version, I made a space where players could type and guess words.
7. WorpuzzMate Is Born
**2025-06-14**I created WorpuzzMate, a version where two users compete.
8. A Pastel Makeover
**2025-06-17**I redesigned the existing computer vs. player game with pretty pastel colors.
9. Plans Ahead and a Note from the Heart
This game is a bit too wide to play on a phone. In the future, I plan to make a phone version by reducing the grid size a bit to fit phone screens and repositioning the scoreboards. I also plan to create many diverse word pools.I can make this game in Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and any language written with an alphabet. So the transformation of Worpuzz will be endless.
While making this game, I developed tech neck and lost immunity. I made this game especially with children in mind, hoping they would gain both fun and vocabulary. If that happens, I’ll have received compensation for what I lost and what I gained.
Thank you for reading.
